San Diego Zoo 2005
Layers of animals and plants are represented in a forested setting from mangabeys in the tree tops to ground dwelling orangutans, pygmy hippos and slender snouted crocodiles with underwater viewing. NLA conceptualized and designed each habitat in succession, using first stage, short lived “Fish Tail Palms” and grasses along with climax species Mahogany trees as well as meeting the challenge of moving an existing 80×120 ficus “Strangler Fig” that dominated the center of the project at over 230 feet tall.
