Old Trolley Barn Neighborhood Park ADA Improvements
City of San Diego: 525 B Street, Suite 750, San Diego, CA 92101
Project Manager: Todd Schmit, 619/533-4620
Total Project Cost: $260,000.00
NLA made upgrades to a neighborhood park originally designed by Jim Neri in 1987, providing universal access to an existing children’s play area and bringing it up to current code in accordance with California Title 24 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. As the original park designer the vision for this historically conceived neighborhood park was preserved and improvements were made to deter graffiti and skateboard grinding of park features. Subtle changes to playground grading were made, accessible and resilient playground surfacing installed, skate-stopping textures added to curbs, planting updates were realized, and playground pathways re-surfaced. NLA served as the facilitator for a community workshop and steered the discussion to center on the required improvements, avoiding cost overruns and resulting in a unified design. Construction documents, bid administration, and construction administration rounded out the services provided by NLA.
